The 2011 HESTA Australian Nursing Awards –
Nurse of the Year Award  – recognising the achievements of individual nurses in the delivery of outstanding patient care.

The pursuit of excellence in the nursing profession is vital to ensure nursing care that is effective, efficient and focused on patients and their individual health care needs.

Colleagues, patients or families and friends of patients can nominate a nurse, midwife, personal care attendant or assistant in nursing to acknowledge the provision of care you consider exceptional and above the standard of nursing practice.
 

Who is eligible for the Nurse of the Year Award?

Nominations for this category are judged on their ability to demonstrate or illustrate at least ONE of the following:

  • An exceptional contribution by the nominee to improving care / outcomes for patients
  • The delivery of a positive outcome in service provision or patient care in the face of adversity or other challenges
  • An outstanding act of kindness, understanding, compassion or courage, above and beyond the nominee's role as a nurse
