The 2011 HESTA Australian Nursing Awards ─ Graduate Nurse of the Year Award ─ recognising the outstanding performance of a registered nurse in their graduate year.

A nurse’s graduate year provides invaluable training for newly registered graduates of nursing to make the transition to ongoing employment in a particular area of specialty.

Senior medical staff in hospitals and health care facilities are encouraged to nominate graduate nurses undertaking the Graduate Nurse Program for this award.

 

Who is eligible for the Graduate Nurse of the Year Award?

Nominations for this category are judged on their ability to illustrate specific examples of how the nominated Graduate Nurse has excelled during their Graduate Year in ALL of the following areas:

  • Demonstrating a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities through effective and efficient performance
  • Providing holistic patient care in treating patients and their illness(es) / condition(s)
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to quality
  • Consistently presenting themselves in a professional and caring manner within diverse populations and cultures, displaying outstanding interpersonal skills with fellow employees and demonstrating their value as a team member
  • Undertaking initiatives to improve in each of the following areas: their nursing skills, services in the workplace and team relationships in the workplace
